My name is Mother Lena and I started Mother Lena's Cat Rescue because all animals deserve a better life.

I have always loved cats. I live in Sweden and in the winter many cats go hungry or they freeze to death due to the harsh weather. I wish to put an end to this misery by providing loving homes for the many homeless cats in my area and provide them with food medical needs.

We try to catch as many cats as we can with insulated cat cages laid on the snow. When we catch a cat we bring them in nurse them back to good health get their medical needs taken care of then all the time we love them turning them into good loving grateful cats others can now adopt.

Sweden and Cats

Sweden is a country where cats have a very low status (value?) and you can bye a cat from 100 Swedish kr.
A dog costs at least 4000 Swedish kr to buy and therefore cats can be bought without much consideration or reponsibility. The cost of a kitten is about the same as a coffe and desert. There is a law for putting an ID tattoo or a chip on/in a dog but not for cats but many people have tried to get the same law for cats.
Many people also want a law for neutering cats, because they can have many kittens in one year.

They multiply quickly...

There is also a big ignorance, when it comes to cats.
Many people think that cats can manage on their own, because they are predators and because they have fur coats. Our climate is far too cold in the winter for cats and many cats freeze to death.
They also get sick and most stray cats are having inner parasites in their digestive system and scabies in their ears.
Some also have ticks. Not a nice thing to talk about, but we need to know, so we can help them from suffering.
Most of the cats coming to a Cat Shelter need medical treatment for different reasons so as you can see there is a very big need to help cats in Sweden.
Anything you do will be a big help.

Cat's Prayer

I hope I'm not asking too much, Lord;
All I want is a home of my own,
And to know when my next meal is coming
Instead of the scraps I get thrown.

I've been out in the cold for so long now,
Just coping as best as I can;
But it's not been so long I've forgotten
The touch of a soft caring hand.

I look in house windows at Christmas,
As cats doze by the fire, quite replete;
How I'd welcome a box in the kitchen,
And tasty food for me to eat.

For me there was tinsel and giftwrap,
But the fun didn't last very long.
They put me outside with the rubbish;
I still don't know what I did wrong.

I really don't want to be greedy;
At the moment I'm all skin and bone,
So would it be too much to hope for
That someone will give me a home?

Cats with Halos

I need to tell you about the cat Killen the boy,the guy

He came to our house, very hungry and injured. He had a big wound on his tail and he was close to be dried out.
We took him in and fed him, giving him lots of fluid.
He had his tail treated fro a very long time, with antibiotics and different ointments, but the wound just would not heal.
He also was in pain, but he always let us treat his tail, he definitely knew we were helping him.

The tail did not heal and the vets did not understand why. After some time, we had to let the vet amputate
a big part of it, to rescue Killen. It all went very well and it looked so good after healing.

About two weeks after the tail had healed, Killen were suddenly being weak and sick.
He could not walk properly and he could not urinate, when trying.
We took him to the animal hospital as quickly as we could and they did a lot of physical examination and also took some
X-rays. At last they had to do a surgery on him and it showed he had advanced Cancer. The tumors had spread and they could not save him. They had to put him to sleep.
He stayed with us for six months....

Killen was the most courageous and loving cat you could ever meet. Everybody who met him just loved him.
His eyes were green and when you looked into them, every problem in your life just disappeared. It was like he was filled with love. He was very open to all he met. He just walked up to my other cats here like he was saying
"Hi! ...... I´m Killen...... Who are you?" and he looked at you with those beautiful and trusting eyes.
I think he was sent here to teach us about love and trust.

I see Killen as a Cat Angel, protecting the cats that we help....
I see him before me when things are tough and I think about how he managed to spread love around, even when he was sock and in pain. I owe him so much....and I love him with all my heart.
He is the reason I met Angelica, my young friend who has helped me with the kittens.
Angelica and I are still the best of friends, even though the age difference is big.
She is a teenager and I am from Stone Age....

Thank you Killen for all the love and thank you for bringing me my beloved friend Angelica
You are an Angel now and I can see you playing in the fields.
The sun is shining where you are, your pain is gone and you are playing with the other cats.

The Starfish Story

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean.

The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish?

You can’t make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish,

and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…”

I made a difference for that one.”
